Strain and Stress Testing

Strain Gage Application

Stress testing and analysis is used to identify the fundamental elements of a components failure. Identification of areas of fatigue can be accomplished through various methods.

Brittle-coat testing allows critical stress areas on a component structure to be visualized as the stress directions and stress distribution. This provides location and orientation for stain gages.

Strain gages, pictured at right, are small, bondable sensors which are applied to a component, having no mass or significant effect and do not degrade the component performance. Static and / or dynamic loads are applied to the component to determine material stress. This allows loads to be applied to a component to simulate field applications. The data is collected and analyzed and is the basis for fatigue evaluations and failure analysis.

DATASYST has the ability to perform testing in a controlled laboratory environment or in field application. Data acquisition is performed with PC based recording system and multi-channel capability. Sensors are chosen for each unique application and can be custom designed.
